Sleeve wrapping transit shrink wrappers are specialist secondary packaging machines used extensively across the packaging industry. They apply a thick, clear sleeve of LDPE shrink film around individual products or grouped items, eliminating the need for traditional cardboard cases.
This method offers a cost-effective and robust packaging solution that ensures product protection during storage and transit.
Think – cans or bottles of beverages shrink-wrapped together in clear plastic.
The Sleeve Wrapping Process
The system uses two rolls of heavy-duty LDPE shrink film joined to form a film wall. Products are fed into this barrier via a conveyor system. As they pass through, the film wraps around the product and is sealed at the rear, forming a protective sleeve.
In standard applications, the sides of the package remain open, creating what’s known as “bullseyes”. Additional sealing units can be added for applications requiring complete four-sided sealing.
Shrink Tunnel Integration
Following the sealing process, the product enters a heat shrink tunnel. Here, heated air causes the film to shrink tightly around the contours of the product or bundle, producing a secure and stable package.
Enhanced Product Protection
Shrink wrapping provides excellent resistance against moisture, dust, and external contaminants, ensuring the contents remain intact during handling, transport, and storage.
Bundle Packaging Options
These systems can be used to wrap single units or multiple items in one bundle – reducing the need for costly secondary packaging like cardboard cases. This makes sleeve wrapping versatile across many sectors, including food, beverages, and household goods.
Automation & Integration
Most sleeve wrapping machines come with a high degree of automation. Features often include automated infeed, film feeding, and discharge conveyors, ensuring consistent, high-speed operation. Many models can also be fully integrated into larger packaging lines, enabling a seamless production flow.
Branding & Labelling Capabilities
Certain systems can print branding, barcodes, or product information directly onto the shrink film, enhancing product visibility and supporting marketing efforts.
